The superhero inside
I started off today in my superman t-shirt. I have been thinking of Superman quite a bit over the past few days. These thoughts were probably sparked by this post by human3rror.
I like superheroes. It might be a geek thing, or just the fact that a part of me has never really grown up, but superheroes are cool.
Some/most Supers have an alter-ego. This is the person they are/become when they are not being all super…
- Spiderman – Peter Parker
- Batman – Bruce Wayne
- Superman – Clark Kent
- The Hulk – Bruce Banner
- Iron Man – Tony Stark
Some Supers don’t need an alter ego (Wolverine) but this post is not about them
Think of some more.. go on, I’ll wait… ok? Cool lets go on.
Do you realize that most of them are ‘made’, that most of the Supers on your list started out as normal people, and then something happen, some sort of radio active event (spider, cosmic rays, lab experiment gone wrong), something happened to these normal humans that, by their own choice or not, created the super powers that made them into super heroes.
Very few of Supers ‘come out’, very few live AS the Super in real life (there are some that do though, fantastic 4, the X-men). The superhero becomes a mask that the real person puts on so that their true identity remains a secret.
The one exception to this is Superman. In Superman’s case Clark Kent is the mask that he puts on to hide his true identity. Superman, or Kal-El to use his true name, is the real deal, he was born with his powers (albeit on another planet), he did not acquire them, they are innate. And yet he dumbs them down and becomes Clark Kent so that he can fit in with the rest of the non-super population.
So I ask you… Where is the superhero inside you? Now I don’t mean to have you all looking for you x-ray vision or whatever. What I mean is what were you born to be? What did God create for you to accomplish? What mask are you wearing to hide your true identity?
Take it off! Be the superhero!
I am, I am, I am flying.
actually that is not entirely accurate.
what if this is what I was made for, and nothing more?
what if I am already a superhero?
I hope not.
