A little light reading
Film Review – Valentines day
I took Marla to see “Valentines day” last night. A day late but the baby sitter was not available on Sunday. Here are my thoughts on the film.
Valentines day is a multi-threaded romantic comedy set in LA on Valentines day 2011. Multi-threaded, because it deals with a whole lot of seemingly unrelated people that all are connected somehow. Romantic, because almost everybody ends up kissing someone, and Comedy because the out-takes were very funny.
Remember “Love Actually”? Well it was just like that but without the Christmas or the funny. I can remember copious bits of humour from “Love Actually” and about 4 funny bits from “Valentines Day”. Oh and 3 of those 4 funny bits were in the out-takes, and 2 of them were only funny because the character made a reference to another movie the actor played in.

Where’s my stupid?
This whole week has been valentines week at the kids school. Alicia is a little young to know what is going on but CJ has been making biscuits with mom, getting excited about the party today and about her red and white outfit that she got to wear today.
The picture above is a photo of a wall in the classroom where the weeks art projects are hung, this weeks theme? No guesswork required. Continue Reading…

Seriously Toilet
I have a friend who uses the phrase “seriously toilet” to indicate that something was bad. I guess the reason is clear. Well here is something that is seriously toilet in a completely different way.
Welcome to the “Modern Toilet” a restaurant in Taipei. Now I know these photos are old (I found references on the internet dating back to 2008), but check them out…
Edit: apparently I should warn you that the pictures could upset a weak stomach (although they made me laugh).

Untangle the internet
As I sat down to type this idea up, it occurred to me that this post would be the second in a row to deal with the topic of censorship. It is just a coincidence I assure you.
A few years ago they (yes them) banned Facebook at work. Ok I understand facebook can waste a lot of time but more importantly, from the perspective of the network nazis administrators, bandwidth. The pictures take up too much, they said. And in South Africa bandwidth is far from cheep.

Gag order?
Its that time of year again. The University of Cape Town is in RAG week right now. The UCT RAG raises funds for SHAWCO or the Student Health and Welfare Centers Organisation. The two big money raising events are the Float Procession and the sale of the RAG magazine Sax Appeal.
Ah the Sax Appeal! Last years edition caused a bit of an uproar with incised Christians complaining to the university, the major RAG sponsors, SHAWCO and anyone who would listen. I wrote about it here.
The free speech people also made a noise because the offended parties were asking for the ‘stricter controls’ over the magazine’s content.
